Seahorse Gift Box

Good morning...how was your weekend? I hope it was filled with family and friends to celebrate our country's birthday...for us here, we just stayed in...they had cancelled the fireworks here, and it was just to darn hot go anywhere...

Today I'd love to share a project that I just love how it turned out. I have always had a fascination with seahorses since I was a little girl. I have loved this seahorse box from Dreaming Tree SVG  ever since it was released...and finally found a chance to make it...

If you know me, you know I love to make gift boxes that aren't your ordinary gift boxes...today, I've added photos to show you how I put this one together using corrugated boxes, acrylic paints, dollar store items and some chipped colored glass...Enjoy!!!
I'm sorry for any photo that is grainy or lighting is horrible...

isn't she a beauty.....

the back I just added strips of corrugated box and distressed it with the distress wheel...
the sides I over lapped them to make shingles effect...here you can see where I tore away some of the paper to expose the ribs...use this as a texture effect...
first paint black with a stiff brush...
use white paint and add water to it for a white wash...using a flowy kind of brush...
then dry brush the pool blue on using a fan brush...
then used distress ink to add more highlights...

I started with the glass in the areas I wanted to emphasize and edge...
sort out the glass pieces per sizes...this really helps in the process of filling them in...I also used super glue....it gives you time to move pieces and dries kind of fast....and glues very well once dried...
the next couple photos shows the direction I was going in...but I didn't like it and changed my mind and used the glass instead of the glass beads...now mind you, the glass beads are still underneath the seahorse..

this is what it would have looked like..minus the tree, flower and ribbon...it just wasn't working for me...
the pieces I used...I doubled every cut and glued them together before I painted...I also added foam board cut up so I could lift the seahorse off of the box...
this was an old tree decoration...I cut the base off and glued it down....I even used supper glue....
these are the tools and embellishments I used...below photos as well...

this is what it would look like without any other embellies....
Well I hope that you enjoyed your visit...and that you will give this a try with your next project...I absolutely love how this box feels in my hands....thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week.....hugs from a very warm Charm City....

Topsy Turvy Cake Box

Hello everyone...how's things in your neck of the woods...not to bad here, just waiting for lock down to be over...

Today, I'd like to show you my little tug boat I made using the topsy turvy cake from Simply Crafty....I have to say that, this isn't what I had started to make...I was sitting there watching the video, and towards the end of it, one of the pics reminded me of a tug boat...so instead of making a girly cake, I made myself a tug boat....

I used the cake just like it was made except I used the icing for the waves...I doubled all layers...top layer I didn't cut the dash cuts...hand painted everything with acrylic paints and the doo dads were from Cricut Design.....Enjoy!!!!

Here's the new birthday set...and there's even a freebie....

Thanks for stopping...stay safe and healthy....hugs from Charm City....

Happy Easter Gift Set

Good morning....how's everyone doing in the midst of this craziness? Did you get your TP? Ha Ha...

Today, I wanted to share a project I made for an Easter gift for someone...it all actually started with me looking for boxes to fit my canning jars...I got a dehydrator for Christmas and I've been on this kick of dehydrating everything in the house...lol...and then some...but I wanted to make some meals/sweets in jars and give them away as gifts...so I was on the look out for svg's that I could use...

Over at Simply Crafty, there's a few that work that I got and was in the middle of making the Qt jar when Sandy just released these cute hat boxes...I really needed to add the Victorian Top Hat box and stand to the gift set...look how adorable that file is...you can use it for so many things...you can also use the stand for something else...or even add a different hat to it...but what I noticed as I was putting the stand together was that it would be the perfect tire and axel for a tractor....with a little modifying....just add a base to both ends...

Well any-who, onto my project...Enjoy!!!!
Simply Crafty SVG's used

I fill my bases with rocks/stones/sand then with newspaper to fill the gap up...it's paper, and over time it will eventually sink downward...so I fill it for that reason and to give it some weight at the bottom...

here's what made me think of tires for a tractor...what do you think?

Well that all I have for now...I do hope you and your family remain happy and healthy thru all of this craziness....hugs from a very sweet Charm City....
